Rimu House Swimming Sports

Lachlan from Room 41 called up to give a demonstration
It all began on a still Friday morning with everyone in Rimu House lining up ready to walk to Memorial Pools. Everyone walked in order of their classes so the Year Eights were followed by the Year Sevens. The walk was fun and not too long where I got to talk a little with my friends, I could tell that everyone was pretty happy about it.

Once we arrived the girls and boys walked to their changing rooms and got into their swimming gear as quick as they could and taking their remaining gear to the grandstands where everybody was seated and given a quick brief over what happened and Lachlan from Room 41 was called up to give a demonstration.

When the first event, 25 meter Freestyle, was called by Mrs Mills I waited for the year seven students and watched them anxiously but still cheered. Once the year eight girls had to go I grew extremely nervous as we were marshaled behind the pools for swimming lanes and as the line  stood in dwindled down I hopped into the pool to start even though a few others had dive starts.

The water was warm and it helped me relax a little as I hit the water and swam as well as I could towards the end of the pool. In the end I made it and got third place…because there were three people in the pool.

Once I walked over and got my score recorded by Miss Mackenzie I walked around the pool back over to the stands. I was worried about how cold it would be inside the pool that I didn't even realise it would be even colder outside of it. I huddled up and watched the other events from the stands.

I also participated in the 25 meter breast stroke, 25 meter doggie paddle and the underwater race. I had fun watching and swimming mostly because of the happy and excited atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed watching Mister Mossop swim against Hoani in the underwater race but unfortunately Mister Mossop won by a landslide, swimming under for a long time and even turning back.

I personally felt that Swimming Sports was a fun event to take part in. I had a great time and scored points for my class that also won the class relay!! Room 42 is awesome!!

Collab Inquiry

Three Things I have learnt
I learnt that when you sleep you breathe at least one litre of water and that the Inquiry cycle is Explore, Locate, Create and Communicate.
I also learnt that your breath is a source of water vapor.
Two Benefits From Working With a Partner
I've enjoyed working with Sattori from room 41 because she was very straight forward and she was very helpful.
One Problem I Overcame
Though we didn't manage to be too fast at first in the end we made it and finished the project satisfyingly.

So this year we have all these different tasks for our homework. They're all under different categories too, these are the ten I've chosen to work on.

1. Give to your family: Prepare 3 formal three course meals, including the
menu, cooking and presenting, photographs of the meal and feedback from
your guests.
2. Give to children in need: Participate in the 20 Hour famine. Raise a
minimum of $40.00

Physical Activity and the Outdoors
1. Improve your fitness: Over a 12 week period run or
walk at least 60km or cycle 120km
2. Explore the outdoors: With a family member or family friend
complete an 8 hour or overnight tramp.

1. Visit an exhibition and review it. Present your review on your blog.
2. Improve your confidence and skill: Prepare and present a speech on a
topic of your choice at a Rimu Hui

Academic Excellence
1. Improve your study skills: Research Rimu- where do you find it? Why is
it important to Māori? What uses does it have? Why is Rimu the best tree in
the school?
2. Improve your writing skills: Complete a piece of writing and
submit it for publishing in a Writing competition

Service in School and Community

the year - must be negotiated

My First Month at School

In my first month at T.I.S I have had fun. I've been familiarising myself with my new class, Room 42, and befriending the new year sevens. We have a new chant for the house and it is awesome! Rimu Red Army Ants will dominate! We've also been doing Kenpo and Zumba in the hall Kenpo is alright but I like Zumba way more. Also seen as though Rimu house is awesome we've been allowed three house leaders instead of the usual two which was difficult to decide because all of the people who were trialing for it had such great speeches.

Also the school production is coming up, A Most Triumphant Tale, and I tried out for it. Unfortunately I didn't get in but it was fun trying out and I'm happy I was at least given a callback. I also moved house to Mount Maunganui so I'm on an entirely different bus too. I am scoring very well in literacy but not so much in math but I hope to improve lots. There are also some new homework tasks for us all to finish and they seem quite fun if not challenging.

My first month was very fun and full of mostly pleasant surprises. I hope the rest of the year can be as great if not better. Though in truth not all of it was fun because lots of hard work was involved as well but as long as theres some fun I'll be perfectly happy with school.
