How to be Me in the Morning

You will need:
Yourself
A Home
A Parent
Siblings
School Uniform
School Bag
Laptop (Apple mac)
Some kind of pass for your bus

First you must wake up somewhat close to your bus's pick up time to the sound of your mother calling at you and your younger sibling to wake up (last part is optional.)

Now try to procrastinate from leaving your warm bed and get out as slowly as possible or try to stay warm as you get up.

Next you must run around the inside of the house finding your uniform, preferably spread out and hiding, and once found you may put it on and proceed.

The fourth part is when you have to go to the kitchen to make your lunch only to find that your mother has made it for you and has made toast for you too.

Thank your dutiful parent and wonder how she did all that in twenty seconds. Don't forget to feel a little bit guilty about waking up late.

For this part you have to shove your lunch into a part of your school bag that isn't already crawling with something and then rush to your bedroom to check your laptop.

The day before you should have left this charging overnight and check the percentage at the top carefully and make sure it's at one hundred percent before turning the screen lighting down to save power.

Now all you have to do is panic as your mother leaves and try to finish a few morning tasks like realize you haven't got a certain thing that's hidden well within the house and try to find it, hopefully this will annoy your impatient parent who will be beeping the car horn as she sits in it with the engine started.

This part is a little difficult depending on how much you annoy your mother and the speed of your siblings. You will have to rush, grabbing your bag and going to the car as fast as you can and slam into the door to the front passenger side.

Next you can open the door and sit on the seat next to your parent and wait for your brother/sister/s to come into the car which should take a while.

Your mother should now be taking you to the bus stop where you take your school bus and drop you off a meter away from it.

Dash towards the stop and wait patiently a few meters away from actual bus stop, because it should smell like sewage and death, and wait for your bus to come.

Once the bus arrives you have to take out whatever type of currency your bus accepts and wait for the first two people on your bus to get on before passing your item to the bus driver and taking a seat.

Finally you find an empty seat and wait to get out at the third stop that doesn't have anybody at it and walk up the the hill that all the other students with similar uniforms will walk up. You have now reached school and succeeded in being me.

(In the event that Tauranga Boys High students are not on the bus your stop will be second and if there are no St. Mary's students and no TBH students it will be first.)

Short Story

Magic Tricks

"26! 18! 13!" Those numbers were called out loudly by the man standing at the stage end. He smirked as his long fingers twiddled with his dark handlebar moustache. He wore a top hat and a suit but from his expression you would think of him as a villain from one of the older movies. These numbers had been pulled out of a small cup he had hidden behind a wall of black fabric and the people in the crowd looked around for those who had been called. A little girl with soft ginger hair stepped forward with a tall, scratchily bearded man and a boy who lived on the streets with nothing but a hat that he kept close.

The magician lifted his cloak for drama and whispered into the little girl's ear and what the girl, Alicia was her name, heard was this; "You shall come with me first." He took her by her pale wrist and placed her inside a box. She shook inside of it as she heard the words, "I shall now place twelve swords through the box. Of course she had seen these shows before but it was a little scary. That's at least what she thought until she heard a "Shink!" and saw cold silver metal racing towards her, she yelped and ducked down breathing heavily as she narrowly dodged the blade. She freaked out as she narrowly avoided many the others and one sliced her dirty blond hair.

"Haha! See she's alive!" The man laughed heartily once he swung the door open. Alicia panted heavily as she was pulled out again by the man.

Heart Rate

The heart rate is the rate of your heart or your pulse. It's how many times your heart beats per minute. The usual heart rate for twelve year olds is around sixty to seventy bpm (beats per minute.) As you exercise the heart rate increases with having to work harder and the more intense the exercise the more your heart rate is likely to increase. The more you grow your heart becomes slower along with the rest of your body.

Room 43

Yesterday in the afternoon me and a few other students were the first to visit the new class across from us. It wasn't exactly a new class it was a replacement for the one that had burned down due to an electrical mishap.

Entering the room you could tell it was new just from the smell aside from the look of it. It was a small classroom for the forty-three students to learn in. One of the women that worked with them helped us out and introduced us to most of them before we were led around by the students.

I thought it was fun learning about the students and what they did in their class. I also enjoyed meeting them because they're very friendly. I hope they can settle in well and have fun in their new class.

The Armageddon

Don't worry, I'm not talking about the end of the world it was an expo and this one was in Hamilton that I went to with my friends.

The Armageddon was awesome. Outside there were cosplayers (basically people who dress up as characters) already buying tickets and lining up. I saw heaps of really epic ones including Neo from The Matrix and a few Akatsuki members from Naruto.

Even though we had planned to stay in our group what managed to happen was everyone actually fell into random groups as we recognised each other and lost each other in the large crowds and surprisingly enough I managed to identify half of the cosplayers there.

You'll find it hard to believe but there were two daleks from Doctor Who and they both shot things at you. I'm pretty sure one of them stalked me and tried to exterminate me a lot because I saw it around corners and probably everywhere so my resolve was hiding behind my friends. There were a few events there that were panels with people from shows and signings from some pretty famous people like a few people from The Hobbit.

Everybody there was very kind and helpful like when I asked for pictures with them. I got pictures with four zombies, Crona from Soul Eater, Grell from Kuroshitsuji, The Beta kids from Homestuck and a few clones from Star Wars. My favourite cosplay was Booker from Bioshock because he had one of the weapons that actually worked and the costume was really detailed. The anime with the most cosplayers was almost definitely from Naruto with a lot of the ninja headbands and shinobi (Ninja veteran) vests.

There were also a lot of zombies due to the fifteen dollar booth to get a zombie facial. Catherine got one and it looked very real. The under eyes were darkened and some of the bones were darkened with blood and ripped skin. The worst thing was probably the fact that I had no money for anything because most of it was quite expensive.

Unfortunately the next day was nothing because I slept in until seven thirty PM only to have a shower, dinner and then go back to sleep. I was extremely exhausted and filled with fatigue so it was a fun day.

The Megalodon Shark

The Megalodon is a giant shark that was said to have died out around the Cenozoic era. This shark was known to be one of the most powerful and largest predator in vertebrate history. The fossilized teeth of this creature when found were reported as petrified snake or dragon tongues but was corrected around 1667 by Nicolaus Steno, a danish naturalist who was able to recognise them as the teeth of a shark.

The Megalodon is also quite similar to a great white by it's teeth and shape. It has been dubbed as the giant white shark, the megatooth shark and the monster shark.

The fossils, or teeth, of a Megalodon have been found in many parts of the world within Europe, Puerto Rico, Japan, New Zealand, Malta and many other countries.

This shark became extinct due to oceanic cooling and sea levels dropping and there was a decline in food supply due to the adaptation of it's prey. It also gained some new competition called Delphinids that could have been the cause.

Summary of the Periodic Table

The Periodic Table is a table graphing all the existing elements in the science world, it's full name is the Periodic Table of Elements. On it are sort of like the ingredients used to create everything and anything on the entire planet. There are 118 elements to currently be known to exist so far and are in eighteen groups.

It was credited to have been made by Dmitri Mendeleev a russian chemist who was born in Siberia and  an inventor who died in 1907. Although there were older tables that existed before he ordered the elements by their atomic numbers and made the more modern table that we use today.

Important Scientific Discovery

One of the greatest scientific discoveries of the world is the wheel. Who invented the wheel used to be a mystery until now.

Archaeologists believe that it was invented around 8,000 BC within Asia. The oldest wheel however was found in Mesopotamia and probably hails from the year 3,500 BC and was believed to be created by Sumerians.

It was originally a large wooden cylinder that was used to transport items but eventually became similar to the wheels on a chariot. The second stage was having a sled-like bottom and the third combined the roller (cylinder) and the sled. The wheel is probably the most important invention of all time and without travel would be a lot slower than it is today.

Archimedes of Syracuse

Archimedes was a scientist that lived long ago in Ancient Greece who was a great mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor and astrologist.

His amazing discoveries in science brought phenomenal changes to the scientific world. He found and developed the laws and principles and mechanics like buoyancy, hydrostatics, specific gravity as well as the lever and the pulley. He also managed to find out how to measure a circle and the volume of a solid.

He was born in the year two hundred and eighty seven BC in Syracuse on the island of Sicily and stayed there for his whole life except for when he traveled to Alexandria in Egypt and received education there.

Archimedes was once tasked to determine the crown of King Hiero II's purity. He did this by figuring out the density of it and proved that it was mixed with silver. This is how he came up with a way to determine the volume of an irregular shaped item.

Eventually the old scientist died in the Siege of Syracuse around two hundred and twelve BC killed by a Roman soldier. Obviously Archimedes was dedicated to his work as he was killed doing so, he may be gone but his discoveries are still with us today.

Science Experiments

A few years ago when I was little and in kindergarten we made baking soda and vinegar volcanoes. My mother helped us make it because she was one of the teachers. The first thing we did was to make sure we actually had baking soda and vinegar before rushing out into the sandpit to make our own little volcanoes with holes in the middle. Then Mum came around and carefully placed baking soda inside and we each had a capful of vinegar poured in and when they overflowed we all rejoiced.

This was all due to a weak acid, or vinegar, reacting with the sodium bicarbonate, baking soda, and neutralizing it. The carbon dioxide that comes off of it is a gas and is the reason the solution bubbles and fizzes so basically a weak acid and a base reacted against each other to create the carbon dioxide fizz.

Ngamuwahine Camp

On the eighth of May two-thousand and thirteen the entire year eight half of Rimu House went to camp at the Ngamuwahine Lodge. This lodge was owned by Jerry Hart, or as we addressed him "Mister Hart." Some of the things we did there were challenging but perseverance won the day.

I am proud of myself for getting to the top of the vertical playpen because it was very hard for me.

The first bit was quite easy until I made it to the three tyres that were in the shape of Mickey Mouse's face and ears. I had help from the adult belaying me from down below who gave me advice on the steps to take and encouraged me all the way and I'm thankful for that. I was advised to put my knees into the first tyre and my arms in the other two but my arms were feeling a lot of pain so after a few more tries I was able to push myself up and reach the next level and eventually to the top.

I don't care if you believe it or not but I actually managed to keep my things tidy. Mostly because it was easier than at home but also due to the help of the other room forty-two girls. Not to mention the pressure of the bunk room inspections so I learned how to tidy in a rush so Mum at home is glad.

The Abseiling Wall.
One of the biggest challenges was abseiling even though I do enjoy it. The wall was a different and higher one than last year so I was taken by surprise. The climb scared the Shitashi mushrooms (I know it's Shitaki I just like that word better) out of me but what was even more difficult was the descent, I mean it felt like I was going to get dropped so much, but once I felt nice and steady on the wall I simply walked down it.

What I'm going to remember the most is probably the campfire night when we slept in the bush. It was fun telling and hearing stories that were funny and somewhat scary though the group one wasn't scary at all. I really wanted to tell a scary story but we didn't have time and ended up going to sleep in our bivouacs. Once I awoke it was morning and very, very cold but the fire warmed me up when one of the parents lit it for the amount of us standing around it.

I really enjoyed camp and the memories and experiences we all shared as girls, a class and most of all as a house!
