Archimedes of Syracuse

Archimedes was a scientist that lived long ago in Ancient Greece who was a great mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor and astrologist.

His amazing discoveries in science brought phenomenal changes to the scientific world. He found and developed the laws and principles and mechanics like buoyancy, hydrostatics, specific gravity as well as the lever and the pulley. He also managed to find out how to measure a circle and the volume of a solid.

He was born in the year two hundred and eighty seven BC in Syracuse on the island of Sicily and stayed there for his whole life except for when he traveled to Alexandria in Egypt and received education there.

Archimedes was once tasked to determine the crown of King Hiero II's purity. He did this by figuring out the density of it and proved that it was mixed with silver. This is how he came up with a way to determine the volume of an irregular shaped item.

Eventually the old scientist died in the Siege of Syracuse around two hundred and twelve BC killed by a Roman soldier. Obviously Archimedes was dedicated to his work as he was killed doing so, he may be gone but his discoveries are still with us today.
